The Poop’d Out Philosophy
Poop’d out and Philosophy aren’t words you generally expect to see together! But though we enjoy a little humor on the surface, we take a professional stance toward our work. We believe the days of well-intentioned animal lovers setting up shop to care for others’ beloved pets without proper training in behavior and care are well past their expiration date.
We are passionate about animals but also passionate about your peace of mind. That’s why we pursue the best in professional education for dog walkers and pet sitters. That’s why we are a full-time business that is licensed, bonded, and insured for your protection.
But don’t worry. We’re not so professional that we don’t know how to get down on the floor to love up your dog or entertain your kitty. That’s ultimately what it’s all about—being there for them when you can’t be.

My story begins back when I was a kid visiting Granny and Grandpa, and spending all my time with their German Shepherd, Chief. Chief and I would walk, play, and go on all kinds of adventures together. It didn’t take long before Granny started complimenting me on the natural skill I had with dogs, saying that one day I’ll surely be working with animals.
Playing with dogs was fun and all, but it’s not a career. Or so I thought.
It wasn’t until years later when I adopted a 10-week-old German Shepherd mix, Twiggy, that I realized just how much work owning a pet was. Life with a high-energy puppy was a full-time job of its own on top of working full time, and I found myself struggling, needing help.
It wasn’t easy finding a reliable and trustworthy pet care person, and those I did find eventually moved on to other things.
As Twiggy and I grew older together, so did our bond. He was my best friend that I did everything with, and I felt awful leaving him home all the time.
I started to research the pet care industry and to everyone’s shock, soon left my job to pursue dog walking and pet care. I had no ambitions of making it my full-time job. Heck, I still wasn’t aware it COULD be a career. But the thought of working for myself with my best friend by my side outweighed the unknown.
Furthering my education in animal behaviour rapidly became my obsession.
Getting started wasn’t easy, and building clientele was even harder when no one would take me seriously as a “professional dog walker.” However, my strong passion, some great word of mouth, and my commitment made the business take off. In 2016, I was nominated at the small business awards and won Best Online Marketer– my first official business recognition by the people of Edson.
It was at that moment that I knew I wanted to be dedicated to providing people with the peace of mind pet care that I could never find for myself.
Our Specialty: Walking Dogs with Behavioral Needs
A lover of all animals, Poop’d Out owner Dacey has a particular soft spot for dogs who are “leash reactive”—a nice way of saying dogs who go berserk when they see fellow canines while on leash. If you’ve experienced it—the barking, lunging, growling, and whining—you know what we’re talking about. While most dog walkers turn away reactive dogs, Dacey has sought specific education to build the skill sets necessary to specialize in walking them safely, helping reactive dogs enjoy calm walks and all the benefits regular exercise brings.
We also make it our mission to support shy dogs, or those who may be a bit socially awkward with their fellow canines. Depending on your dog’s needs, our private or group walks can be a great opportunity to help your canine wallflower… well, flower. We’ll help build her confidence and learn to make lasting doggie friendships.
Sidekicks: Twiggy & Lilith
Every good dog business needs an assistant or two, and ours take their jobs very seriously, just like we do.
Lilith, a Bengal, prefers helping out in the office where it’s nice and warm . She can generally be found by Dacey’s side helping to run numbers, book appointments, and oversee the organization of it all.
Ode to Twiggy
(Feb 25, 2012 – Aug 13, 2019)
Twiggy, my best friend, a partner in life, co-pilot of every adventure, and inspiration for the path my life has taken me – the reason for Poop’d Out. And so much more.
He was an ambassador of large breeds; gentle and kind to people, dogs, and felines.
He was the German Shepherd that helped many overcome their fears and bad experiences with the breed.
He was a mentor and friend to many puppies and dogs, even to those dogs who don’t make friends with others.
He was an athlete; climbing mountains, swimming in rivers, a jogging partner, agility dog, lure courser(even if it was just once), dock diver in training.
He was a blood donor.
He was a Canine Good Citizen and Canine Good Neighbour.
He was a supporter of local events; dressing up for Canada Day, the summer festival, Pride, walking/running for good causes. He was often a celebrity at these events with many people asking for a photo with him in his crazy get-up.
He was a Therapy Dog and for seven months a Volunteer with Alberta Health Services visiting seniors with dementia.

Poop’d Out has been a lifesaver. I work a hectic (and often random) work schedule related to emergency response. Dacey has been incredibly flexible and accepting of my madness, which relieves the stress of trying to balance a family life and a work life.
Poop’d Out took the time to get to know each of my dog’s personalities. She has been there with me through some of the hardest times in my dog parent life- dealing with leash reactivity, losing my furry best friend to cancer, and helping me train a new (and boisterous) puppy. I appreciate her patience, her positive training techniques tailored to each of my dogs’ quirks and her professionalism.
Before Poop’d Out, I would be stressed about what would happen if I was called away for 12 hours or more to an emergency. My husband’s schedule is just as random so it was nearly impossible to organize something like a kennel visit. We are relatively new to Edson, so we didn’t have the friendly neighbour, or buddy’s teenage kid to walk our dogs or throw some kibble over the fence. Poop’d Out gives us all the options we need to ensure that our sometimes stressful work lives don’t negatively impact our pooches’.
I appreciate the effort that Dacey puts into updating me on my dogs progress, highlighting areas we need to work on and I LOVE all the fun picture and video updates. It’s great to see my dogs learning to trust others, getting some fresh air and meeting new fur friends (and of course getting spoiled rotten). I’m thankful that Dacey and Poop’d Out exists- we depend on them for peace of mind!
